A53 refers to the design and construction of an apartment building within the urban fabric of Rethymno and develops across a basement, a pilotis (open ground floor), and three upper floors. Its design is based on a clear and repetitive geometry, where the organization of the floor plan follows a consistent grid that ensures functional clarity and constructional coherence.
The composition is organized around two staircases, which allow the creation of twelve dual-aspect apartments with a north–south orientation and five residences with a southern orientation. The spatial layout takes advantage of natural lighting, cross-ventilation, and solar exposure, creating high-quality living conditions adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
A central element of the architectural composition is the balconies, which function as intermediate spaces between the interior and exterior environment. Through the placement of vertical elements, a system of privacy and shading is formed, giving rhythm and depth to the building’s façades.
The architectural approach remains simple and contemporary, emphasizing clarity of form, functionality, and the creation of pleasant living spaces. The project integrates smoothly into the urban environment, proposing a modern residential solution that combines clean lines, balanced proportions, and everyday quality of life.
